Güevéjar: Visita Cultural
Entre colinas de tierra roja plantadas de olivos, Güevéjar simboliza la resistencia de un pueblo a la historia y a los reveses de la naturaleza. La inestabilidad del terreno sobre el que se asentaba provocó la destrucción de gran parte de las casas en el ‘terremoto de Lisboa’ de 1755 primero y después en el ‘terremoto de Arenas del Rey’, sucedido en la Navidad de 1884. Este último abrió grietas de tal dimensión en la tierra que desaconsejaron la reconstrucción de Güevéjar y propiciaron el traslado de la población a su actual emplazamiento, sobre suelo mucho más firme y seguro....

La villa de Güevéjar se halla situada en la ladera oeste del Castillejo de Nívar (conocido en la localidad como Peñón de Bartolo), el último espigón de la sierra de de la yedra, una alineación menor que la sierra de Arana proyecta hacia la Vega de Granada. Dista 9 kms. de Granada, con l que está comunicada por una carretera de segundo orden que, partiendo de la capital, pasa por Pulianas y muere en Cogollos Vega.
